The
city of Anaconda is located in Southwestern Montana at 46.128°
north latitude and 112.964° east longitude in the Mountain
Time Zone.
Anaconda is located just six miles from Interstate 90 and 15
miles from the area where Interstate 15 (north-south) intersects
Interstate 90 (east-west).
Anaconda is the county seat of Anaconda-Deer Lodge County. The
Continental Divide passes within a few miles of the community
with local Northern Rocky Mountain peaks reaching up to 10,379 feet. Anaconda covers an
area of three square miles and is 5,335 feet above sea level.
The county area is 741 square miles, characterized by densely
timbered forest lands, lakes and recreation grounds. The county
has common borders with Beaverhead, Butte-Silver Bow, Granite,
Jefferson and Powell counties.
Anaconda Climate Statistics
Montana's climate varies considerably. The state's record high
temperature of 117 °F (47 °C) was recorded at Glendive
on July 20, 1893, and at Medicine Lake on July 5, 1937. Before
Alaska became a state in 1959, Rogers Pass had the lowest U.S.
temperature ever recorded at -70 °F (-57 °C) on Jan.
20, 1954.
The region of Montana west of the Continental Divide where Anaconda
is located has cooler summers and warmer winters than the area
east of the divide.
In the western part of the state, the average January temperature
is about 20 °F (-7 °C). Eastern Montana's January average
is around 14 °F (-10 °C). July temperatures average 64
°F (18 °C) in the west, and 71 °F (22 °C) in
the east.
